United Against Poverty addresses SNAP gap in Indian River County with grocery program
Millions of Americans, including 3 million Floridians, are still awaiting their SNAP benefits due to a federal freeze, despite court rulings ordering the release of emergency funds. In response to this unsettling gap in food assistance, United Against Poverty of Indian River County is stepping up to help. Through its Member Share Grocery Program, UAP offers groceries at a savings of up to 70% off to individuals and families living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Eligible households, including individuals earning up to $31,300 and families of four earning up to $64,300 per year, can receive vouchers at the UP Center in Vero Beach from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.
Beyond food support, United Against Poverty provides crisis management services to help residents cope with rising costs for essentials like housing and utilities. “We know this freeze is creating real fear for veterans, seniors, and families who depend on SNAP to feed their children,” said UAP Executive Director Matt Tanner. “We’re here to connect people with the help they need right now.” For more information, visit www.upirc.org or call 772-770-0740.
