The Millennium Campaign strives to provide a safe, secure user experience. This Privacy Statement sets forth the online data collection and usage policies and practices that apply to the Millennium Campaign websites http://www.millenniumcampaign.org, www.enpoverty2015.org, www.standagainstpoverty.org, and www.unitedagainspoverty.org.
By using these sites, you consent to the policies and practices described in this statement.

We offer our service to every person world-wide. To ensure data and privacy security we ensured that the mechanism of our own websites, the gathering of information as well as the use and storage of information conform with the lowest common legal intervention which corresponds to data and privacy security interpretation world-wide. This affects the range of how your personal information is collected (e.g. the personal information you provide when you fill in a form), how it is then used and disclosed, its accuracy, how securely it is kept as well as your general right to access that information.

Collection and Retention of Information

In some areas of our sites, the Millennium Campaign requests or may request that you provide personal information, including your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, contact information, and any other information from which your identity is discernible. It is important to keep in mind that we do not collect personally-identifiable information (name, address, e-mail address or other unique identifiers) on our web site unless we specifically advise you that we are doing so. We especially do not gather so called sensitive information as passport numbers, social security numbers, tax file numbers, credit worthiness information, health or medical information.

When you sign up for online actions (e-cards, petitions, event registration) you provide us with your name, email, and country. These online actions are sent to their recipients with your name and email address.

During the registration process we give you the opportunity to provide additional profile information, such as phone number, address, organization et al. Once you register you can visit your account at any time to add or remove personal information about yourself. We do not share or otherwise disclose any personal information, including your name, address, or e-mail addresses with other organizations.

We also gather or may gather certain information about your use of our site, such as what areas you visit and what services you access. Moreover, there is information about your computer hardware and software that may be collected by the Millennium Campaign. This information can include without limitation your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information does not identify you personally. We maintain the above information in system logs and use this information to make our site more useful to visitors by learning the number of visitors to our site, the number of pages served, and the level of demand for specific pages. We do not track or record information about identifiable individuals and their visits.

We retain indefinitely all the information we gather about you in an effort to make your repeat use with us more efficient, practical and relevant. Of course, you can correct, update or close your account at any time. In the latter event we will remove all our account profile information except for an archival copy, which is not accessible on the Internet.


Use of Information by the Millennium Campaign

We use the information we gather on the site, whether personal, demographic, collective or technical, for the purpose of operation and improving the site and fostering a positive user experience. In order to fulfill this purpose, all our employees are obligated in a written declaration to only process and use the data they have access to during their work. Anything else is expressly forbidden.

We have areas where you can submit feedback. Any feedback you submit in these areas becomes our property, and we can use such feedback in connection with the site or contact you for further information.

In accordance with Article 23, Section 4, Item 3 of the Personal Information Protection Law of Japan, The Millennium Campaign shares the use of the personal information of user with its in “Overview” aforementioned defined partners for these purposes.


Disclosure of Information to Others

We do not disclose to third parties your personal information, combined personal and demographic information or information about your use of the Site (such as areas you visit or services you access), except that:
(a) We may disclose such information to companies and individuals we employ to perform functions on our behalf. Examples may include hosting our web servers, and analyzing data. These companies and individuals will have access to your personal information as necessary to perform their functions, but they may not share that information with any other third party. If The Millennium Campaign involves external contractors it is ensured that every handling of data is according to §11 BDSG and Article 23, Section 4, Item 3 of the Personal Information Protection Law of Japan for fulfilling the purposes specified in “Use of Information by the Millennium Campaign”.
(b) We may disclose such information if legally required to do so, subject to our privileges and immunities, if requested to do so by our internal governing and oversight bodies, including Member States, or if necessary in our sole discretion to protect Millennium Campaign property or rights, prevent a crime or protect the safety of users or the public.

Any gathered data i.e. individual's name and address will not be sold or rented or given away otherwise by The Millennium Campaign unless such action is specifically authorized by law. This provision shall not be construed to require the withholding of names and addresses otherwise permitted to be made public.


Use of Cookies

The Millennium Campaign websites use "cookies" to help personalize and maximize your online experience and time online. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard drive by a web page server. Cookies are not used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to your computer, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

The Millennium Campaign has implemented reasonable technical and organization measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure. We will use all reasonable endeavors to ensure that you only provide personal information in a secure environment and when the information is no longer needed it will be destroyed or permanently render anonymous. However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes.

We operate secure data networks protected by an industry standard firewall and password protection system. We also take care to ensure that we have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, unauthorized access, alteration, modification or disclosure of your user data under our control. We limit employee access to the servers and databases that store user information. We have taken all reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, misuse or alteration of data. You should be aware of the inherent risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet.

In the event the Personal Data is leaked or lost, we will report this immediately to the person affected and the applicable competent ministry. In this case The Millennium Campaign will publicly announce such data leakage or data loss incident to the extent possible.

The Millennium Campaign will use all reasonable endeavors to protect and keep confidential any personal information in its possession in relation to its members, subscribers, users or website visitors. If confidential or personal information is accessed by a third party, whether by negligence or otherwise of The Millennium Campaign its agents, suppliers, contractors, related bodies corporate, affiliates or associated parties, to the extent permitted by law, The Millennium Campaign is not liable for any loss, damage, costs, liability or other form of contribution. We are constantly improving our website and the tools you can use to manage the data that you provide to us.
